Gloria Dei has had a rich tradition of music from its very beginnings.  The Chancel Choir and the Men’s Choir enriched our worship every Sunday for over thirty years at both early and late services.  Serving as chancel choir directors over the years have been Mildred Larson, Helen McIntyre, Ann Fife, Jerry Kirkpatrick, Dorothy Meyers and more recently David Bakken.  Jerry Kirkpatrick also led the Men’s Choir every Sunday for over two decades.  We were also blessed with many other special groups such as the Cherubs (Vivian Stern), King’s Carolers (Erna Miles & Jane Hendricks), Fountain of Salvation, New Morning, Men’s Gospel Quartet and Women’s Choir.  That’s not counting all the quartets, duets and solos provided by many with wonderful gifts of music.  We now enjoy the ministry of a praise band, “Rock the Word”, “WE4Him”, “Sacred Daze” at our contemporary worship services.

The music program at our church has also had our share of setbacks.  The original organ in the sanctuary, which had been moved over from the First Unit, began about 1984 to have a “few oddities” about it.  It would play music all on its own sometimes during sermons especially during damp weather.  With the mortgage paid off for the Sanctuary in 1985, it was time to think about an upgrade for our worship music equipment.  A committee was formed, funds were donated and a new Allen organ was dedicated in Sept. 1986.  Organists who have served over the years are Mildred Larson, Ann Fife and Marshall Rezos.  From 2002 until September 2004 we were blessed with a talented pianist in Sarah Lockrem. Sadly, Sarah left us to continue her education, but we were able to find another talented musician and we are now enjoying the services of Paul Wanless at our traditional services, while the contemporary renderings of Rock The Word continue to inspire us at our 11:00 service.  Over the years this congregation has been, and is, blessed with much musical talent.

Our Music Ministry
Worship is the intentional attitudes and actions of focusing on God...It grows out of the foundational motive of deep and wonder-based gratitude to God for His salvaging and sustaining us.
